  12. I moved texmf/tex/latex (the 209 stuff) to texmf/latex209, and
  13. created texmf/latex209/dvips
  14. I moved the 209-style files (the ones with typeface names) out of
  15. texmf/tex/dvips into texmf/latex209/dvips
  16.  
  17. Then I took the entire CTAN tree for LaTeX2e input and dropped
  18. it into texmf/tex/latex, cd into texmf/ini, rename latex.fmt latex209.fmt
  19. and ran initex latex.ltx.
  20.  
  21. It worked fine.  If you need to use things like times.sty, that requires
  22. a little more work, and if you want to run latex209, I have a script
  23. that works with the command latex209.

  25. I don't even like LaTeX very much, but I must admire the ease of
  26. the changeover (in all but the question of times.sty, etc.)

  50. North American academic institutions have been taken over by MBA 
  51. bean-counters and genuine or wannabe industry CEOs.  Just when 
  52. American industry is beginning to doubt the wisdom of autocratic 
  53. pyramidal dictatorship, most American Universities have adopted 
  54. that style of management, which is nice for refugees from defense 
  55. industry boardrooms, but rather sickening for the rest of us.
